heads up day 02

I faced Joseph Hachem in the 2nd round. I’d been told our match began at 1pm, but I found out early this morning that we were actually to play at 11 a.m. I’d gotten plenty of sleep so it didn’t affect me much. He started out raising a lot of pots. I gave him some of the blinds, but I won the first meaningful pot we played and that gave me a slight chip lead. I never really looked back. I’ve played with Joe before and I felt pretty comfortable at the table with him. I made a few tough but accurate reads and flopped the best hand a few times. Pretty quickly, I found myself with three quarters of the chips. He was raising a lot in position so when I thought he was weak and I looked down at an A, 3 suited, I reraised, pot committing myself. He shoved and I called after spending some time in the tank. The dealer told me it was a lot more to call than it actually was so I had to think for a really long time. After I’d been thinking for about three minutes, the dealer corrected his mistake and that made my decision to call a relatively easy one. He flipped over A, 9 offsuit and made my flush on the river.

Later today I’ll be facing T.J. Cloutier in the sweet 16.
