I flew to New York a couple days ago. I had a blast walking around and people watching. I ate some pizza cause no one does it better than NYC. I window shopped, ambled through Central Park watching intramural softball and kickball teams, hit up a few lounge bars, and spent the remainder of my night watching movies and responding to e-mails.
I hadn’t been to “The City” since I was a kid, but I must say that it doesn’t disappoint. This city positively teems with things to do and it pretty much defines cultural. Plus there’s a lot fewer chain stores and more locally owned shops and restaurants – very cool. It had all the energy of a bustling European city but all the perks of an American one (namely the fact that I speak the language and I didn’t have to do any currency conversions). That said, I don’t think I’d ever move there because while the big city atmosphere is fun for a weekend, it might be tough to deal with long term. I much prefer smaller cities that are more “outdoorsy.”
The purpose of this trip was to head into the CNBC studios for an interview with Donnie Deutsch. He hosts a television program that, in all honesty, I’d never seen but I know that he’d interviewed big timers like Bill Gates and Trumpie McTrump so I thought I’d complete the Triumvirate of Power. Ok just kidding. I didn’t really know what to expect, but having Vanessa Russo there too was cool. We got to hang out and talk poker and other business opportunities. I hadn’t really hung out that much with Vanessa before this trip. I respected her poker game but talking with her let me see that there’s a lot more to her. She’s well spoken and confident, yet humble at the same time. NYC can be a lonely place if you don’t know anyone but with someone to talk to I ended up having a fun time. Thanks Vanessa!
The interview itself wasn’t nearly as long as I thought it would be. I was in the recording studio no more than a half hour. I’m always down for interviews but I felt a little silly flying out to NYC for such a short trip. Maybe I need to talk some more smack or something. Eh. Good pizza and a free trip to the city? No complaints.
I had a blast in the short time I was here. I got a taste of New York, the interview went well, and I made a great friend. Now it’s back to Vegas for more fun and excitement! In addition to battling against Jamie Gold, Mike Sexton, and Mike the Mouth in Poker After Dark, I’ll soon be attending my cousin’s wedding, writing a book, and house shopping in the near future!
