the most important blog i’ve written

Yesterday, Annie Duke went before members of Congress to defend the rights of poker players everywhere. In an interview with Cardplayer a day earlier, she summed up some of her main points. I have included both the Cardplayer interview as well as her entire speech and I wholeheartedly agree with both.

I encourage you to read both, but if you, like me, are in any way involved in the poker community, I’m asking you to do one more thing. Please write or email your Congressmen and women and ask them to support two bills dealing with the game of poker. The first is H.R. 2046, a bill that licenses, regulates, and officially legalizes internet poker. The second bill is H.R. 2610, which states something that we all know and believe, namely while of course some element of chance is involved, that poker is predominantly a game of skill and that it should not be treated the same way as games like roulette and craps, which are much much more luck based.

Here is a map with links to your Congresspeople. The UIGEA, which devastated online gaming, was passed because poker players didn’t speak up. Now it’s crucial that we not make that same mistake again. Please feel free to link to this blog or to copy and paste the entire thing to your site. Thanks for your support of this great game,
