The tourney goes down on Monday and if I’m going to battle these guys, I’d better get my hands on one of these systems. The only problem? It’s Friday night and there are no Wiis in the whole city. Some long-haired guy behind the counter at the gaming store laughs and says, “Good luck, everyone’s going to be sold out.” I leave him and the all the 13 year olds and head over to Wal-Mart. “We had 40 yesterday but we’re sold out now,” a clerk tells me. Brutal. I call every Wal-Mart in Vegas but the story’s the same, “Sorry, just sold our last one a few hours ago.” I look into buying one online and rushing it here but three weeks is the best they can do.
At wits end, I head to Gameworld, a hole in the wall store with no a/c and walls covered with cases displaying Magic the Gathering cards. A sweating proprietor nods slyly and says, “Yeah we got a used one in last night.”
I say, “Ill take it,” before he even tells me how much it’ll cost. He bags it up and I peel out of the parking lot, confident that after only 45 minutes, I’ve found the last Wii in Vegas.
Look out Gavin, I’m makin June 25th the new Turkey Day.
