A sports betting site has a bunch of prop bets up for the World Series Main Event. One of them asks which former Main Event runner-up will outlast the others. In order for the bet to go through, one of us has to cash. As you can see, the list is:
Steve Dannemann
David Williams
Paul Wasicka
Sam Farha
T.J. Cloutier
David and I are 3/2 and the other three are 5/1. I’m glad to get the dog’s vote of confidence but this is still probably not that great a bet to take. I fully intend to do well in this year’s main event but I’d want better odds on my money for a bet like this. Interesting though.
Steve, David, and Sam are solid players but they all play pretty aggro. If any of them survive the first day, they may be sitting with a whole lot of chips. T.J. has been playing the game for a long time. You won’t find him making any mistakes. With a conservative style and getting 5/1 he might be the best bang for the buck.
Thoughts on other bets up there:
Kristy Gazes didn’t make the list in the women’s last longer bet and I respect all the women who did but Kristy is an amazing tournament player. I could see her making a deep run.
As for other people I think will go deep: I’ll take Hellmuth, Patrick Antonius, J.C. Tran, Nam Le, and Issac Haxton. And Paul Wasicka :)
