guitar hero, voodoo rituals and the wpt championship

Everyone always asks me if I have a pre tournament ritual. There are definitely things I do to get both excited and relaxed. The first is that I always stretch before a long tournament. This may seem silly but when I’m sitting there, I don’t want to be thinking about how my back hurts or something. I want to devote every bit of energy to playing lights out poker.

I also burn other players in effigy. I build small dolls of players like Joe Sebok, Jamie Gold, and Phil Gordon and then sacrifice them in my hotel room sink. The maids must think I’m a freak but if I burn someone the night before a tournament, I know they can’t hurt me the next day.

Ok that last paragraph was a load. Actually I just listen to Tuff Fish. This may not be the secret to my success but it always puts me in the right mood.

The other thing I always try to do is something really fun and non-poker related. In LA I drove a bunch of go karts including a drag car. Tonight I tried out Guitar Hero 2. This game is sooooo addictive! It’s a lot harder than it looks but I just spent the last two hours rocking out and I’m not stopping till my fingers bleed.
